Richmond County Public Library

Close Ties Magazine

Close Ties magazine was produced in 7 issues from 1990 to 1997 by Richmond County (Virginia) Intermediate School and gave students an opportunity to learn about and report on their community’s history. For each year’s issue, students interviewed family and community members and gathered photographs, under the guidance of their teacher/advisors. Each issue is available free online and is linked below.

Themes included:

Rappahannock Watermen (1990)

Various topics (1991)

Military veterans (1992);

Local agriculture (1993) ;

Local baseball history Part 1 (1994)

Local baseball history Part 2 (1995);

Various topics (1997).

No 1996 issue was produced, as the 1997 issue was composed over two years.

The library does not own the first issue on Local watermen from 1990, but will add it here when found.

Thanks to Susan Gouldin for recommending this wonderful local history source for our online collections.
