Local History of the Richmond County Affiliate

Thanks to a bequest by Berry and Carolyn Gray, the Richmond County Public Library was able to become a local affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for all Richmond County children from birth to their 5th birthday.

Berry and Carolyn Gray in 1992

Since its local beginning in June, 2018, over 200 Richmond County children under the age of 5 have now received free monthly books by mail from Dolly Parton.

As a local affiliate, Richmond County Public Library pay approximately $25 per child per year to cover shipping expenses so that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library will send every registered child a free book by US Mail each month. The Dolly Parton Foundation has committees of children’s literature experts to select the best quality, age appropriate books for each age every year and the Foundation pays most of the cost for the books themselves.

If you would like to keep this wonderful program for Richmond County children going after the Gray family bequest is spent down in the next year or two, please donate online  and designate your gift to the Richmond County, VA local affiliate. Thank you!
